/list

You can now use /list again, and it’ll do a search on the current server for channels.

Just type in /list <keywords> (keywords are optional)

You’ll then get a new tab for the query, which will also allow you to page forward and back through the results.

Please note that /list is currently not permitted in the widget.

How many people are using my widget?

If you run a site, and are using the widget, you might want to show elsewhere on your site how many people are using it. Well now you can do that easily.

First thing you need, is the settingsID. This is in the widget URL you are using. Just replace (settingsID) with your particular ID.

http://api.mibbit.com/(settingsID)

This one outputs just the number of mibbitians using your widget. You could use this from PHP,Python, etc and get it to output in the page.

http://api.mibbit.com/(settingsID).js

This one outputs a snipet of javascript which will write to the document the current number. So you can include this in your HTML, without any backend changes needed.

For example:

<span>There are <script src=”http://api.mibbit.com/293847928374.js”></script> people chatting</span>

http://api.mibbit.com/(settingsID).json

You might prefer this one, it’s likely that later on this one will contain more useful info as well.

There are also a couple of graphs updated at

http://api.mibbit.com/graphs/(settingsID)_week_mini.png

http://api.mibbit.com/graphs/(settingsID)_month_mini.png

These are all updated every 20 minutes, so should give you a reasonable idea of how many people are chatting.

Widget change

You may notice that the widget gets changes in the next day or so. Instead of the thin one-line advert bar above the chat, it will be moving to a slightly larger advert format for the time being.

This change was not taken lightly, but obviously as Mibbit grows, we need to ensure that we can cover the costs of bandwidth and servers. We may move back to a single line advert in the future, if it’s technically possible.

We’re also working hard on an ad-free premium widget, which should be ready for testers by the end of February, and for everyone start of March. The premium widget pricing is not fixed yet, but should include options for most webmasters.

Stay tuned to the blog for more info regarding the premium widgets nearer the time :)

More growth, upgrades etc

Things are getting tight again, specifically with the widget. You may have noticed a few resets the last couple of days, so we’re setting up a second widget server to balance the load slightly. Things should improve soon :)

Also work on getting /list back working etc is progressing…. honest :D
