One of the big things I needed to get sorted was complete customization of mibbit. Both for users, and later on for publishers who wish to embed it into their site and have it flow seamlessly into their chosen design.
What I’ve done today, is setup most of the user prefs system. There isn’t a GUI for it, so it’s all done with commands, but it does work, and gives you quite a lot of control already.
The new commands are /set and /dset.
/set changes preferences for the current channel only, and they do not get saved anywhere.
/dset changes your default preferences for any new channels. If you are a registered mibbit
user, these get saved for next time you visit.
You can type /set or /dset, and it’ll show you all of the options available so far. Most of these should be self explanatory, but I will come up with some docs on the wiki when that is up.
Also eventually much of those preferences will be shown in a nice preferences tab also.
For example, try the following:
/set parseSmilies false
/set chatFontFamily Comic Sans MS
You can set most of the colors for the actual chat output, as well as chosing what gets parsed, such as smilies (A topic of much debate), and fonts (Yes, monospace if you like), and sizes.
Hopefuly this’ll create so
me nice new skins for mibbit. Eventually skins might be savable, sharable with others.
Also, it looks like mibbit plays pretty nicely with the iPhone
Not everything is ‘just so’, but it’s definitely usable. Thanks to roi from www.myfijifriends.com for the great pictures!
